Beta-casein makes up about 30 percent of the protein in cow's milk. A1 and A2 are two variants of beta-casein.
What is A2 milk and why A1 is harmful?
A2 protein milk was the original milk produced by cows but due to human and natural interventions, some breed of cows started producing A1 Protein in their milk. Cow breeds like Jersey, Holstein, Friesian are foreign breeds from Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand produce A1 milk while the pure-breed Indian (desi) cows and the African cow produces A2 protein milk.
When A1 beta-casein protein is digested in the small intestine it produces an opioid peptide called beta-casomorphin-7 (BCM-7).
A2 Desi milk contributes to building immunity, increasing metabolism and providing Omega 3 fatty acids.
BCM-7 is linked to diseases such as type 1 diabetes, coronary heart disease, infant death, autism, schizophrenia, and many other digestive problems.
The calcium present in A2 Desi milk helps in making your bones stronger and also in the prevention of colon cancer.
